Dead as a Doornail - Charlaine Harris I'm on a reread of the series and so far I still enjoy it, but its been a lot easier to notice when the author says things are just plain stupid. I mean stupid stupid. Like, "The Japanese had been trying to hawk their synthetic blood to ambulance companies to make a few bucks." First of all, Japanese people as a whole did not invent synthetic blood but she talks like one Japanese person is the same as the next and they're all in the labs cooking up miracles, which is what synthetic blood would, in fact, be. If someone invented fake blood that actually sustained life, they wouldn't be "hawking it for bucks". They'd be billionaires with a Nobel prize or three. But I do kind of understand how the vampire revelation could overshadow mindblowing advances in medicine.
